In the early 1980s, a young fiddler by the name of Natalie MacMaster emerged from Troy, Inverness County, on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Natalie's distinctive lilt and drive gained popularity and soon her energetic performances propelled her to the world stage. Now, after decades of touring the globe with performances at many prestigious concert halls, festivals and special events, Natalie has achieved an impressive array of musical accomplishments including East Coast Music Awards, Junos, a Grammy nomination, gold records and honorary doctorates. She has received the Order of Canada, the Order of Nova Scotia, the King Charles III Coronation Medal and, most recently, was inducted into the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour.
Dedication, authenticity, and longevity have afforded her incredible opportunities throughout the journey. These include many cherished collaborations on stage and in studio with an impressive list of legendary artists; The Chieftains, Carlos Santana, Don Henley, Alison Krauss, Michael McDonald, Johnny Reid, Jann Arden, Bela Fleck, Rhiannon Giddens and Yo-Yo Ma, to mention a few. Of all her accolades and accomplishments, she holds most dearly her family. These are her greatest gifts (pictured above). She and husband, Donnell Leahy, original lead fiddler from the highly acclaimed band, Leahy, have seven children, all of whom carry on the music traditions.
